Waterside Raft Race

Hythe Ukulele Group will be entertaining the crowds at Hythe Marina on 21 August 2016 at the annual Waterside Raft Race.  HUG will be playing in the gap between the penultimate and final races of the day and again between the last race and the prize giving.  So, if you are attending the raft race, stick around until the prize giving and join in the singing with HUG.

The start time in uncertain as it depends on the racing, but could be anytime from 2.30 pm onward and will go on to about 3.45 pm.

HUG members: we will probably play as many as 25 songs, so this list holds 29, which should cover contingencies. Depending on start time some may get skipped overor we may play even more, so have your “generic song list” available.

Weather warning – strong winds forecast for Sunday so take plenty of pegs to hold the music down.

Come up and see us sometime

Not seen HUG play yet?  Our next public gig is at Exbury Club Fete and Flower Show on Saturday 6 August 2016, where we will be playing at about 1.00 pm.   On Sunday 21 August 2016, we will be at Hythe Marina to support the Waterside Raft Race, playing sometime after the racing and before the prize giving.,  We will also be playing at the Charity Concert for Hythe and Waterside Dementia Support Group at
Cornerstone Church on Saturday 12 September 2016 in the evening.  Hope to see you at at least one of these performances.

New versions of songs

There are new versions of a number of songs in the Dropbox folder – the latest updates are to “A white sports coat”, “Try a little kindness” and “I saw her standing there”.  However, some people are still using older versions of songs such as “Singing the blues”, where there are a number of differences between new and old versions. Please check that you have the latest versions in your songs’ folders.

Brexit impacts ukulele players

The impact of Brexit on the pound/euro exchange rate has increased the costs of Southern Ukulele Stores‘ purchases from EU countries by 15%.  While they are trying to keep their prices down and not pass the full price hike on to customers, they have had to withdraw the discount that they had been offering to local ukulele clubs. So sorry, no 10% off anymore for Hythe Ukulele Club members.
