HUG meets on the first and third Thursday at Hythe Community Centre. Harry’s group meets on the second and fourth Thursday at the Exbury Club. BUT, June has five Thursdays – what are you going to do to maintain your ukulele fix on the fifth Thursday?
Fear not, help is at hand! Exbury Club have said we can meet there for a ukulele fun night. We will play some HUG songs, sing some of Harry’s songs, do some solos, drink some beer, have a chat, get some uke coaching, drink some more beer, whatever!!! Why not bring your banjo, mandolin or guitar?
Start time 7.30 at Exbury Club on Thursday 29 June 2017, in the function room behind the bar – cost £1 if you are not a member of the Exbury Club.
Don’t forget, the New Forest Ukulele Festival is taking place on the 20 May 2017, at the New Milton Memorial Centre 11:30 am – 8.00 pm. Admission is £5.00 per person, pay at the door, no advance tickets.
HUG is not playing, but take your uke so that you can join in with the 30 audience participation songs from the 15 ukulele groups that will be playing or join in the workshops. For budding soloists among you, there is also an open mic session.
For latest information see NFUF on Facebook.

It has been proposed that HUG supports only ONE local charity this year. This would enable a much larger money donation to be presented to that organisation. So, how do we choose the Charity of the Year?
Firstly, Hug members are invited to nominate any local charity. They will then need to submit a short written description of the organisation:- including the work that it undertakes, its aims, what the donation would be used for and any other information that would assist the decision making process. These should go to Kaj for circulation to HUG members.. The closing date for nominations will be 28 February 2017.
If sufficient money is available at the end of the year, a second charity may be considered for a smaller donation.
The decision to choose the Charity of the Year will be taken at the HUG A.G.M. by vote of those Members present.

The impact of Brexit on the pound/euro exchange rate has increased the costs of Southern Ukulele Stores‘ purchases from EU countries by 15%. While they are trying to keep their prices down and not pass the full price hike on to customers, they have had to withdraw the discount that they had been offering to local ukulele clubs. So sorry, no 10% off anymore for Hythe Ukulele Club members.
