Five Thursdays in June

HUG meets on the first and third Thursday at Hythe Community Centre. Harry’s group meets on the second and fourth Thursday at the Exbury Club.  BUT, June has five Thursdays – what are you going to do to maintain your ukulele fix on the fifth Thursday?

Fear not, help is at hand!  Exbury Club have said we can meet there for a ukulele fun night.  We will play some HUG songs, sing some of  Harry’s songs, do some solos, drink some beer, have a chat, get some uke coaching, drink some more beer, whatever!!!  Why not bring your banjo, mandolin or guitar?

Start time 7.30 at Exbury Club on Thursday 29 June 2017, in the function room behind the bar – cost £1 if you are not a member of the Exbury Club.

Poole – have you paid?

Only 3 more HUGs until our trip to Poole. Just a reminder to those who still owe the balance for their coach seats, that this needs to be paid into the coach company in the next week or so…

Sandy also needs your meal choices please and the meal payments can be made over the next couple of HUGs..

There are still a few available seats on the coach at £15 each for Saturday 17 June 2017, for old or new Huggers, partners and/or friends welcome. To book a seat/s or if you have any questions, speak to Sandy at a HUG meet or use Contact Us form.

Gig list updates

Please note that the gig on 18 May 2017 has been cancelled, there are two new gigs in May and the date of the Hythe Mistletoe Fayre has changed.  Please update your diaries accordingly.

Practice – change of venue

Hythe Community Centre is being used as a polling station for the local elections on 4 May 2017 so our usual practice room in not available.  But fear not, the conference room at Exbury Club has been booked from 19.00 to 22.00 and HUG practice can carry on as usual.

Please bring Generic List and include Koke’e hope you have now learned the Hawaiian!

The last part of ‘Get It on’  has been deleted, please reprint or cross out on your music sheet.

Request from Bill Smith

“Dear HUG,

I expect you are as dismayed as I am with the sad news of the passing of Barry.

You may not know this but Ken Peckham and I have been playing with Barry as a trio for many years and one  of his favourite songs is the Joe Brown version of “I’ll see you in my dreams”

Joan rang me recently with the list of HUG songs she would like played at his service.

I suggested that “I’ll see you in my dreams” would be an appropriate song to play and she suggested I sing it solo.

As I don’t sing very loud and would possibly choke up I immediately thought of asking if anyone else would be interested in performing it with me.

Preferably without music.

I intend holding rehearsals specifically for this song at my house at Ashurst next week should anyone like to join me in rehearsing this Joe Brown arrangement.

Best time for me would be 10am to 12 noon any morning.

I am looking for a Bass player and no more than six Uke players in order to keep it manageable.

It is a lovely song but needs to be played and sang sensitively with HUG singing the chorus (sang twice)

If anyone is interested please let me know.

Bill Smith.”

If you are able to support Bill, Please contact him through using the Contact Us form and I will pass your response on to him.
